Catherine Wagner(Wagoner) Juon Burns – typewritten obituary

Catherine Wagner Burns, daughter of John and Barbara Wagner, was born July 13, 1884, at Saratoga, Wyoming, and passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Clara Lande, last Thursday morning, May 10,  (1956) thus attaining the age of 71 years, 9 months and 28 days.

When a small child, the family moved to California, where she spent her childhood and youthful years.

On February 10 1904 she was united in holy wedlock with Christian Juon at Whittier, California, and at once came with him to Iowa where the couple established their new home on a farm south of Alleman. To this union were born eight children, all of whom were baptized and received into the membership of the Salem Reformed Church at Alleman, where she and her husband remained faithful members to the last.

After 40 years of devoted marital felicity her husband passed away in July, 1944. He was preceded in death by two sons, Lester in 1907, and Willis in 1943 by a tragic accident.

On March 11, 1952, she was united in marriage with John Burns at Lodi, California and since that time they had made their home alternately there and in Iowa.

Mrs. Burns, previous to her illness five years ago, had enjoyed good health and met her duties with vigor and great pleasure within the home and church, and many social obligations. Her neighborliness will always be remembered. Following her long illness the past six months, which she bore with true Christian fortitude, she was granted a release from her suffering, into the hands of the Maker on Thursday, last week.

Surviving are her husband, John Burns; her children, Alfred Juon of Jewell, Mrs. Clara Lande of Huxley, Mrs. Iona Kramer of Webster City, Elmer and Merlan Juon of Slater and Mrs. Edna Den Hartog of Shafter, California.

Fifteen grandchildren* also survive. She is further survived by three brothers and one sister: Joe Wagner of Saratoga, Wyoming, Andrew and John Wagner and Mrs. Eva Bueler, all of Modesto, California; many nieces and nephews and a host of more distant relatives and friends, all of whom cherish her memory.

The obituaries during that part of the century were so descriptive giving you a better picture of the individual. We should consider doing the same in this 21 century so that those who come behind us have that same gem. Welcome Aboard GeneaBloggers.
